Legally blind man rides 20 miles to work on an electric bike

"He's just adapted to it," said Stacy Kingston, 38, Charlie's wife. "He's really legally blind and he's riding a bike. It's a little dangerous for him and he's been in a couple of accidents, but he has to support his family." Kingston said his bike is a good option for anybody looking to save money on a commute."You don't have licensing fees, you don't have insurance," he said. "And most importantly, you don't have gas."

Marquis, the owner of Javelina Cycles, said electric bikes are becoming more popular as gas prices continue to grow. "Demand is huge. It's probably going to go through the roof," Marquis said, adding the electric bikes, known as "light electric vehicles," are the most popular item on his store's Web site. Alan Lepak, owner of Global Bikes in Gilbert and Chandler, said business is up as consumers begin to consider biking to work.
